The Light at West Chop captures one of the most memorable sights welcoming travelers to Martha’s Vineyard. As the ferry approaches the island, passengers sail past the historic West Chop Lighthouse, built in 1891 and standing as a quiet sentinel along the Vineyard’s shoreline. Inspired by that first glimpse of the island, EmBee recreates the scene in richly layered natural fibers, using wool from sheep, alpaca, and other fibers to build the water, rocky coast, dense foliage, and distinctive red-roofed lighthouse with wonderful texture and dimension. Framed in white, the piece is both a celebration of an iconic Vineyard landmark and an evocative reminder of that unmistakable feeling of arrival—when Martha’s Vineyard first comes into view.
